Apresentação
Criado em abril de 2013, o Laboratório de Estudos sobre o Brasil e o Sistema Mundial (Lab-Mundi) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) congrega pesquisadores, estudantes e professores dessa instituição, bem como de outras brasileiras e estrangeiras, que investigam as relações do Brasil com o sistema mundial moderno. O Lab-Mundi funda-se em sólidas trajetórias de pesquisas que trataram dos processos de independência e de construção do Estado nacional brasileiro em suas interfaces com o sistema mundial, bem como da dinâmica do escravismo brasileiro nos quadros da economia-mundo capitalista. Por meio da criação de núcleos de pesquisa com acento marcadamente comparativo e integrador, o Lab-Mundi tem por escopo a ampliação do leque temático de abordagens que compreendam a formação histórica do Brasil dentro das muitas possibilidades contidas naquilo que convencionou-se chamar de História Global, buscando para tanto ativa interlocução e colaboração de colegas de quaisquer áreas das Ciências Humanas dedicados ao tema.
O Lab-Mundi é uma instituição ligada à Weatherhead Initiative on Global History, da Harvard University, e seus membros participam de grupos como a Second Slavery Research Network (cuja face brasileira é o grupo interinstitucional O Império do Brasil e a Segunda Escravidão) e o projeto Iberconceptos.
Created in April of 2013, the University of São Paulo’s Laboratório de Estudos sobre o Brasil e o Sistema Mundial--Lab-Mundi (Brazil and the World System Studies Laboratory) gathers a team of researchers, students, and professors from the University and other Brazilian and foreign institutions who study the relationship between Brazil and the modern word system. Lab-Mundi is grounded on well-established research projects that have looked at Brazil’s independence and the formation of its national state in connection to the world system, as well as works focusing on the dynamics of Brazilian slavery within the framework of the capitalist world economy. Through the creation of research groups marked by a comparative and encompassing approach, Lab-Mundi aims at expanding the range of thematic approaches to understand Brazil’s historical formation within the many possibilities in what is usually called Global History, searching for both an active dialogue with, and the collaboration of, colleagues from any areas of the Humanities devoted to the subject.
Lab-Mundi is part of the Weatherhead Initiative on Global History, of Harvard University (USA). Lab-Mundi’s members also participate in the Second Slavery Research Network (whose Brazilian chapter is O Império do Brasil e a Segunda Escravidão) and in the inernational project Iberconceptos.
